< READING >
The japanese reading : u de
The sound reading : wa n

< MEANING >
arm, the root of the wrist, skill

< ORIGIN >
「月」+「宛」
月 : meat, body
宛 : The state that two people were round, and stooped down under a roof.
The part of the body which be round, and bend ( = the root of the wrist ).

< USE >
手腕 [shu - wa n] : abilities
腕前 [u de - ma e] : skill
腕相撲 [u de - zu - mo u] : arm wrestling

example) 私は料理の腕に自信があります。[wa ta si - wa - ryo u - ri - no - u de - ni - ji -shi n - ga a ri ma su.] I am confident of a cooking skill.

The sound reading : kyo u

< MEANING >
chest, heart, thought

< ORIGIN >
「月」+「匈」
月 : meat, body
匈 : The state that surrounded the cavity from the outside.
The part of a body surrounding the cavity ( = a thorax ).

< USE >
胸中 [kyo u - chu u] : feelingsCourage. A chest measurement.
度胸 [do - kyo u] : courage
胸囲 [kyo u - i] : chest measurement

example) 私は胸を撫で下ろしました。[wa ta si - wa - mu ne - wo - na - de - o - ro si ma si ta.] I heaved a sigh of relief.

「戸」+「月」
戸 : The state that an arm hangs down from a shoulder. ( This is unrelated to ''戸 ( = door )''. )
月 : meat, body

< USE >
双肩 [so u - ke n] : shoulders
肩甲骨 [ke n - ko u - ko tsu] : The shoulder blade

example) 肩をおとす[ka ta - wo - o to su] be disappointed
