< MEANING >
arm, the root of the wrist, skill

< ORIGIN >
「月」+「宛」
月 : meat, body
宛 : The state that two people were round, and stooped down under a roof.
The part of the body which be round, and bend ( = the root of the wrist ).

< USE >
手腕 [shu - wa n] : abilities
腕前 [u de - ma e] : skill
腕相撲 [u de - zu - mo u] : arm wrestling

example) 私は料理の腕に自信があります。[wa ta si - wa - ryo u - ri - no - u de - ni - ji -shi n - ga a ri ma su.] I am confident of a cooking skill.
